Ebola contact tracing falls far behind in Congo

Health officials say contact tracing is falling far behind as an Ebola
outbreak continues spreading in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Africa CDC chief Jean Kaseya says authorities have identified only about
30-thousand people who may have been exposed to the virus.

With roughly 7-thousand confirmed cases, he says officials would expect to
identify more than 400-thousand contacts.

Kaseya says more than 80-percent of new confirmed cases are being detected
among people who were not already being monitored, indicating continued
community transmission.

The World Health Organization says the outbreak has now reached 63 health
zones across seven provinces.

Its latest situation report recorded more than 7-thousand-700 confirmed cases
as of September 20th.
