W-H-O Warns of Health Worker Shortage in Congo Ebola Outbreak

The World Health Organization is warning that Congo is running short of
health workers to staff treatment centers as the country's Ebola outbreak
continues to spread.

The W-H-O says cases surged 73 percent over three weeks in North Kivu,
despite signs of improvement in some other provinces.

The outbreak has now spread to seven provinces, with 7,773 confirmed cases
and 3,759 deaths.

Between August 31 and September 20, cases fell 26 percent in Ituri, the
outbreak's epicenter, and 15 percent in Haut-Uele.

However, the W-H-O says transmission patterns vary widely and the outbreak
remains uncontrolled.

The situation is being made worse by insecurity, displacement, a health
workers' strike and large movements of people.
