I-C-C Convicts Former Central African Rebel Commander

Judges at the International Criminal Court have convicted former Seleka rebel
commander Mahamat Said Abdel Kani of crimes against humanity.

The 56-year-old was found guilty of persecution and torture committed while
he ran a prison in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic.

Said remained expressionless for most of today's hourlong hearing.

Presiding Judge Miatta Maria Samba described the harsh conditions detainees
endured at the prison.

Said's sentencing will be decided at a later hearing.
