E-U and Philippines Announce Free Trade Deal

The European Union and the Philippines have announced a new free trade deal,
aimed at expanding trade between the two sides.

The agreement is part of the E-U's efforts to diversify its economy amid
tensions with China, Russia and the United States.

The E-U and the Philippines currently have nearly 30 billion euros, or about
35 billion U-S dollars, in annual trade.

Electronics make up a large part of that trade.

The E-U exports aircraft, pork and pharmaceuticals to the Philippines, while
importing semiconductors and machinery.

The Philippines is the third A-S-E-A-N country to sign a bilateral trade deal
with the E-U.
