Tai-Ex surges in early trading to surpass 48,000 mark

The Tai-Ex surged in early trading this morning to hit a new record high.

The main board added 880 points, to reach a fresh historic high of 48,601.

The rise came as major market heavyweights soared on the back of the
Philadelphia Semiconductor Index gaining 4.29-per cent overnight - which saw
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing's American depository receipts climbing by
2.41-per cent.

T-S-M-C's share price rose 30 N-T on the Tai-Ex this morning to reach 2,510
N-T and Delta Electronics added 55 to reach 1,930 N-T.

While MediaTek climbed to new record highs, as its share price added 7-per
cent.

Market watchers say investors were buoyed positive news regarding US-China
trade negotiations and a drop in international oil prices, which drove a
massive influx of capital back into tech sector.
