Australia, New Zealand deepen naval cooperation

Australia and New Zealand have signed a new agreement to deepen cooperation
between their navies.

The agreement, called Plan Tasman, covers personnel, training, capability
development, warfighting, engineering and international engagement.

Both governments say it is designed to improve information sharing and make
the two navies better able to operate together in the Indo-Pacific.

The plan was signed by the deputy chiefs of the Royal Australian Navy and
Royal New Zealand Navy.

New Zealand officials say it builds on a naval framework signed in 2024 and
is intended to move the relationship toward greater integration between the
two forces.
