Woman escapes serious injury after falling onto THSR tracks

A woman escaped serious injury after falling onto the tracks at Taiwan High
Speed Rail's Tainan Station just as a northbound train was approaching.

Railway police say the 38-year-old apparently became unwell and tripped while
waiting on the platform shortly after 8 a.m.

Station staff quickly activated the emergency stop system, and Train 612
stopped before reaching her.

The woman was able to return to the platform with only minor redness and
swelling to her knee.

Police say the case will be referred to prosecutors for investigation under a
law covering negligent acts that endanger rail traffic.

The incident delayed Train 612, and affected passengers delayed by at least
30 minutes will receive a 10-percent fare refund.

THSR says platform doors are being installed network-wide, with completion
expected in early 2028.
