Hai Kun resumes sea trials as testing enters final stages

Taiwan's first domestically built submarine, the Hai Kun, has returned to sea
for another round of submerged testing.

A military expert says the testing program appears to be entering its final
stages after the submarine spent more than a month in dry dock for
adjustments.

He says an October delivery to the Navy is possible if the remaining tests
proceed safely and smoothly.

However, he stressed that delivery would not mean the submarine is
immediately combat-ready.

The Hai Kun would still need further integrated testing and crew training
after delivery, a process 96 the expert says take several months or even more
than a year.

The Navy has not announced an official delivery date.
