Manila affirms right to work with Taipei despite China's warning

The Philippines is emphaizing that it has the right to cooperate with
Taiwan...

following protests from Beijing over a new Taiwanese diplomatic office in
Cebu.

That's as Manila reaffirmed its recognition of the "One-China Policy."

Officials say that the policy remains consistent but added that it does not
mean Manila and Taipei cannot work with one another.

This comes after Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung announced last week that
Taiwan was preparing to open a second representative office in the
Philippines.

The day after the announcement, Chinese officials said that the plan to open
a new office was "doomed to fail."
