Taiwan launches international disaster management alliance

Taiwan has formally launched an international alliance to strengthen
cooperation on disaster preparedness and response.

President Lai Ching-te says 11 of Taiwan's diplomatic allies and Somaliland
have joined the World Alliance for Disaster Management as founding members.

Government agencies and disaster response organizations from another 21
countries have joined as observers or partners.

The alliance will promote joint training and exercises, mutual assistance and
information sharing. Its work will cover early warnings, emergency response
and post-disaster recovery.

Lai says Taiwan hopes to become a hub for cross-border disaster cooperation.

He also says Taiwan's whole-of-society resilience model, developed over the
past two years, can now serve as a reference for other countries.
