A US governor seen as a potential frontrunner for the democratic nomination for the presidency has met with Foreign Minister Lin Jia Long last night.
Lin said he received Michigan's Gretchen Whitmer, adding that the two mostly discussed bilateral trade and supply chain resilience.
He said that Taiwan was hoping to deepen cooperation with Michigan to enhance supply chain security.
Lin added that nearly half of US states have established offices in Taiwan, including Michigan.
Whitmer said that investment exchanges between Taiwan and Michigan are robust, with collaboration mainly in the firleds of semiconductors, EVs and AI.
Whitmer, a democrat, is finishing out her second term as governor, with speculation growing that she could be a strong contender for the democratic nomination in 2028.
