The government is launching a four-year plan to prepare for new and emerging infectious diseases.
Three disease-prevention centers will be established at National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University and Chang Gung University.
The centers will connect researchers and hospitals across northern and southern Taiwan, while also monitoring diseases entering through airports and ports.
The government is investing 175 million NT in the project this year.
Officials also plan to strengthen domestic vaccine development and cooperation with Japan and Singapore.
