Election
Brazil’s Supreme Court stopped deliberations yesterday on whether a justice who led the trial against former President Jair Bolsonaro should face an investigation in a graft case.
The move is shaking up the run-up to the country’s presidential election next month.
The session is still on, but the decision on the justice can return to the court only by mid-December, when it will be close to recess.
That puts the decision off until well after the election.
The justice who sentenced Bolsonaro to prison last year is accused of corruption by another justice, a Bolsonaro appointee.
The former president is the father of current presidential candidate Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, who is expected to face President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in what is predicted to be a close election.
