Taiwan is warning of increased risks for people traveling to China as new
entry and exit rules take effect, but says it is not raising its travel alert
for China for now.

Mainland Affairs Council deputy head Shen Yu-chung says the rules could put
information, business and personal security at risk.

He says five groups face particular risks: Taiwanese businesspeople and
company executives, high-tech workers, frontline civil servants and members
of some religious groups.

Shen says Chinese authorities can require travelers to provide digital
information from phones and laptops when entering or leaving the country.

The rules also allow authorities to restrict people from leaving China over
technology, export or national security concerns. In some cases, people may
not be told they are subject to the restrictions until they try to leave.

Taiwan's current travel alert for China remains at orange, meaning people
should avoid non-essential travel.
