European Leaders Meet to Discuss Growing Importance of Arctic

European leaders are meeting in Finland to discuss the growing strategic
importance of the Arctic.

Climate change has opened new shipping routes and made the region's natural
resources more accessible, attracting growing interest from governments.

But Russia's increased military presence in the Arctic has also raised
security concerns.

The meeting follows Norway's seizure of a Russian vessel in the Arctic at
Ukraine's request.

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo says the Arctic is important to Europe's
security and prosperity.

The European Arctic Summit is being seen as a "dress rehearsal" for a planned
overhaul of the European Union's Arctic policy later this year.
