Court approves detention of man who held intern at knifepoint at airport

The Taoyuan District Court has approved a detention order for a man who allegedly held an airline intern at knifepoint at Taoyuan International Airport this past weekend.
Taoyuan prosecutors filed a the request citing the pending charges against the man, which include assault, deprivation of personal liberty with a weapon, coercion and an offense against public safety.
The court says that statements from the victim and witnesses, as well as body-camera and surveillance footage and photographs of the victim's injuries, provided sufficient grounds to suspect the man of multiple offenses.
The incident occured in the Cathay Pacific Airways staff lounge in Terminal 1, where man held a Cathay Pacific intern at knifepoint until police subdued him by using pepper spray and tasers.
The victim and several police officers suffered only minor injurues.
Police say they found as bag containing drug residue and drug paraphernalia after subduing the suspect.
