Taipei to expand childcare reduced-hours program in 2027

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an says the city will expand a program that lets parents work shorter hours without losing pay next year.
The trial began in March and has attracted 480 companies, benefiting more than 900 employees.
Under the program, participating companies can let eligible parents start work later or leave earlier, with the city subsidizing the lost working-hour wages.
Chiang says participation has exceeded expectations and the city will use feedback from companies and parents to improve the program.
He also says Taipei is willing to share its experience with the central government, which has announced plans for a similar nationwide policy.
Taipei's current program runs through the end of this year, with the city saying it will definitely expand the scheme in 2027.
