Banqiao borough chief candidate released on bail re: vote buying

A borough chief candidate in New Taipei's Banqiao has been released on bail
after being detained in a vote-buying investigation.

The candidate, surnamed Liu, was released on bail of 300,000 NT after
prosecutors conducted searches and interviews yesterday.

Liu's father was also held, and released on 500,000 NT bail.

New Taipei prosecutors say that Liu handed out movie tickets back in May, in
what they say was a violation of the Election and Recall Act.

They encourage the public to report suspected vote-buying to authorities,
with reports leading to arrest getting a substantial reward.
