High court sentences two for developing CCP-linked organization

The High Court has sentenced a businessman to 10 years in prison and a retired Cabinet official to five years in prison for developing organizations for Beijing's united front authorities.
Businessman Cheng Ming-chia helped Chinese united front officials approach and attempt to recruit targets in Taiwan by providing contact information and arranging meetings in China from between 2021 and 2025.
He successfully recruited retired Cabinet official Hu Peng-nien as as a potential operative, while his efforts to recruit another individual failed.
Hu also tried to recruit three people here in Taiwan to carry out united front work from 2021-2024, but none of them accepted his proposals.
The court said Hu admitted to the offenses, while Cheng denied wrongdoing throughout the investigation and trial.
