Mont Blanc changes due to climate change

Western Europe's highest peak is experiencing dramatic changes.

Europe's record heat waves this summer have severely impacted the permafrost
that has held the Alpine landscape of Mont Blanc together.

Defrosting cliffs have collapsed, causing rock falls.

A route that climbers have used to ascend the summit became temporarily
impassable.

This news follows devastating floods in the Himalayas, which came to pass
after a collapse of bedrock and glacial ice sent debris and water surging
through multiple rivers.

Italian researchers are also documenting dramatic damage to glaciers; in one
area, alpine glaciers have lost more than 40% of their surface area since
1991.
