African imports of Chinese E motorbikes surge 60%

African imports of Chinese electric motorcycles have surged nearly 60% in the
first half of the year.

The biggest buyers were Morocco, Egypt, and Algeria.

The shift highlights a divide in the continent's transition to EVs.

Motorbikes and other similar vehicles account for a large share of vehicles
on African roads and are heavily used commercially.

That means, switching to electric could cut fuel consumption and urban air
pollution.

North Africa is emerging as a major destination for imports of fully built
Chinese electric scooters.
