August Heavy Rain Agricultural Losses Top NT$562 Million

Agricultural losses from heavy rain in late August have climbed to over
562-million NT, with guavas still the hardest-hit crop.

The Ministry of Agriculture says more than 6-thousand hectares of crops have
been affected across Taiwan.

Guava farms accounted for the largest crop losses, with nearly 600 hectares
affected and damage estimated at about 62-million NT.

Other badly affected crops include ponkans, wax apples, papayas and green
onions.

Chiayi County reported the highest agricultural losses at nearly 148-million
NT, followed by Kaohsiung, Tainan and Yunlin.

Aquaculture losses have topped 111-million NT, mainly involving grouper,
milkfish and oysters.

In addition to crops and aquaculture, the figures also include losses to
livestock, forestry and agricultural facilities.
