AIT Director Raymond Greene is warning Taiwan to prepare for more sophisticated AI-enabled information manipulation ahead of November's local elections.
Speaking at the 2026 Taipei Security Dialogue, Greene said Taiwan has been an international model for countering cognitive warfare.
But he says adversaries could increasingly use AI to deepen divisions and undermine confidence in Taiwan's democracy and its partnership with the United States.
Greene also warned that AI-powered cyber threats could pose risks to banks and critical infrastructure.
On energy security, he said Taiwan is much better prepared than several years ago, citing efforts to strengthen the power grid and diversify energy sources.
Those include renewable and geothermal energy, as well as consideration of small modular nuclear reactors.
