The Army's nationwide brigade-level force-on-force "Lu Sheng" exercise next month has been extended and will now take place over 10 days and nine nights.
This year's exercise will involve the Taoyuan-based Army 269th Mechanized Infantry Brigade and the Kaohsiung-based 564th Combined Arms Brigade and takes place from October 14 to 23.
Sources say this year's drill will test scenarios including 24-hour combat readiness, dispersed command-and-control operations, unscripted and realistic war scenarios, and rules of engagement to assess the combat units' defensive capabilities.
The Lu Sheng exercise will also see the deployment of the US-developed Team Awareness Kit, which allows Army commanders to track friendly forces, mark enemy units and receive real-time updates.
Last year's Lu Sheng exercise lasted seven days and six nights.
