The Taiwan People's Party is cutting off electoral cooperation with the K-M-T in Hsinchu County.
Ths, after both parties refused to defer to the other's preferred candidate in the Zhubei City mayoral race.
The K-M-T's Wu Hsu-chih and T-P-P's Chiu Chen-yuan both registered as candidates for Zhubei mayor last Thursday.
Wu had initially tried to downplay the standoff, saying cooperation in the race was still possible.
However, comments by Hsu Hsin-ying, the K-M-T's nominee for Hsinchu County magistrate, later claimed the two parties had not made any agreements on the Zhubei race.
The T-P-P's Central Committee has passed a resolution Sunday suspending electoral cooperation with the KMT on all races in Hsinchu County.
T-P-P Secretary-General Chou Yu-hsiu says the K-M-T and Hsu's "inability to keep promises" has "seriously damaged the foundation of mutual trust that the two parties have gradually built over the last two years."
The K-M-T and T-P-P candidates in the Zhubei City mayoral race will be running against the D-P-P'sTseng Sheng-kai and independent candidate Li Chen-hsiu - who was expelled from the T-P-P in April.
