Italy's Meloni passes stability milestone

Italy's Premier Giorgia Meloni has celebrated a milestone for her government,
which has lasted longer than any other government since 1994, which marked
the beginning of the country's so-called second republic era.

At a rally in southern Italy, Meloni cast the longevity record as evidence of
the strength and cohesion of her center-right coalition.

As of yesterday, she had served 1,414 days, exceeding Silvio Berlusconi's
1,412 days during his second term -- between 2001 and 2005.

She credited her right-wing coalition with boosting employment, supporting
families and businesses, managing public finances and restoring Italy's
credibility abroad.

Meloni said that stability was "our first great reform."

Italy's next general election has to be held by next December.
