The Ministry of National Defense has quietly revealed the existence of what appears to be a hypersonic missile project.
According to the Taipei Times, the Fei Chi II (飛戟 II) weapons system appears as a line item in a nonclassified military budget.
It is believed that this indirectly confirms that Ching Tien I (擎天) supersonic cruise missiles have gone into service and the successor Ching Tien II program will be implemented from next year through 2031.
According to the Taipei Times, Chinese media are calling the Fei Chi II line item an "official leak" ... that's likely intended to enhance deterrence.
The Ching Tien II program has been the subject of speculation for years, and the latest budget appears to provide confirmation that it is on track to be the third generation of cruise missiles developed in Taiwan since the 1996 Taiwan Strait Crisis.
