Philippine Court Orders Arrest of Vice President Sara Duterte

A Philippine court has ordered the arrest of Vice President Sara Duterte over
allegations that she threatened to have President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and
others assassinated.

Duterte was impeached in May over the same allegations, along with claims of
financial irregularities.

The case is part of a growing political showdown between Duterte and Marcos.

Her lawyer says Duterte will post bail and continue fighting the charges.

The case stems from a 2024 news conference, when Duterte said she had
arranged for someone to kill Marcos and others if she were assassinated. She
later said she was expressing concerns about her own safety.

A trial could affect Duterte's plans to run for president in 2028.
