China is threatening to boycott Korea's Gwangju Biennale over the name of the
Taiwan pavilion...

which was changed from "Taiwan" and then changed back again.

The pavilion was originally named "Taiwan," in step with other countries'
pavilions, before the organization changed the name to NTMoFA, which is short
for National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.

But strong pushback from Taiwan and local artists in Korea prompted the
organization to change the name back to Taiwan ahead of the event's opening
this weekend.

But now, China is reportedly threatening to not participate.

Nikkei Asia reports that the Gwangju Biennale apologized to Beijing, saying
that the name of the pavilion did not amount to regonition of Taiwan as a
country.

Artists in Gwangju previously noted that the dispute was particularly salient
given the history of the Gwangju uprising less than 50 years ago.
