DSET: stable foreign demand for drones remains low
Posted on 2026-09-03 11:07:13
A report is pointing out that key upstream materials of domestically made
drones still comes from China despite the government's push to establish
non-Chnese supply chains.

That report also says that stable export demand for Taiwan-made drones
remains unsteady.

The report by the Research Institute for Democracy, Society and Emerging
Technology notes that exports of Taiwan-made drones increased from just under
3500 in 2024 to nearly 123,000 last year.

The main export markets include Poland, the Czech Republic, and the US, with
large orders this year also coming from the Middle East.

But analysts note that part of European demand is tied to the ongoing
invasion of Ukraine, which may not translate into a sustained post-conflict
demand.

Meanwhile, the report points out that Taiwan continues to source some chips
and software from overseas.

But even with governmetn funding to develop local alternatives, it would take
2-3 years to begin mass production.
