Saxony Steps Up Push for Taiwan Semiconductor Investment

Germany's state of Saxony is stepping up efforts to attract Taiwanese semiconductor companies, as it prepares for TSMC-backed chip production in Dresden.
Speaking at SEMICON Taiwan 2026, Saxon State Minister Dirk Panter said the region's well-established chip industry gives it an edge in attracting Taiwanese investment.
But Panter says attracting companies is only part of the effort.
As Taiwanese engineers and their families move to Saxony for the TSMC-backed ESMC project, he says the state also wants to make sure they feel at home.
Meanwhile, the German Pavilion at this year's SEMICON Taiwan has a record 31 participating organizations, up from 18 last year.
And construction of the ESMC chip plant in Dresden is underway, with production expected to begin by the end of 2027.
