Global chip market to exceed US$2 trillion by 2030: SEMI

The global semiconductor market is expected to top 2 trillion U-S dollars by 2030, driven by demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
SEMI senior director Clark Tseng says the market was previously expected to reach about 1 trillion dollars, based on traditional demand from PCs, smartphones and consumer electronics.
But AI data centers are driving demand for advanced chips, high-bandwidth memory and other components.
The market is expected to surpass 1.5 trillion dollars this year, despite continued weakness in PC and smartphone shipments.
Taiwan is expected to account for about 30 percent of the global semiconductor materials market next year.
But SEMI board chair Tien Wu says AI growth is putting pressure on Taiwan's land, talent, capital and electricity resources.
SEMICON Taiwan will run from Wednesday through Friday at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Halls 1 and 2.
