Saudel could regain typhoon strength within 24 hours

The Central Weather Administration says former Typhoon Saudel could regain
typhoon strength within the next 24 hours.

The storm weakened after moving into China, but strengthened back into a
tropical depression at 8 a.m. today.

Saudel was centered about 1,050 kilometers west of Eluanbi and is forecast to
cross Hainan before turning toward Guangdong.

The CWA says the system would likely only reach the lower threshold of a mild
typhoon before weakening again over land.

A typhoon warning remains possible, but forecasters say the chances are low.

Meanwhile, central and southern Taiwan could see localized heavy or
torrential rain today, with wet conditions continuing into tomorrow and
Wednesday.
