Prosecutors seek 12 years for doctor who sold sleeping pills to drug dealer

The Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office has indicted a doctor accused of
illegally supplying sleeping pills to a drug dealer.

According to the prosecutors' office, the case involving the 65-year-old
doctor came to light during an investigation by the Taipei City Police
Department investigation into a drug dealer.

Police traced sleeping pills sold by the drug dealer to a clinic in Taoyuan's
Guanyin District.

Prosecutors say an investigation found that the doctor had supplied the drug
dealer will sleeping pills by falsifying records and adding the drugs to
prescriptions issued to patients without their knowledge.

Officials seized over 21,000 sleeping pills, prescription forms and
16-million N-T in cash when they raided the doctor's clinic in April.

The doctor has been charged violations of the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act
and the Criminal Code.

He was released on bail of 400,000 N-T.

Prosecutors are seeking a sentence of 12 years in prison and fines totaling
13-million N-T.
