Legislature passes drone procurement bill with US$7.56bn spending cap

The Legislative Yuan has passed a key bill prioritizing the development and
procurement of domestically made drones, with a spending cap of 240 billion
NT in principle.

The opposition-led bill passed 60 to 50 in the 113-seat Legislative Yuan,
with additional funding possible subject to legislative approval.

The legislation also aims to strengthen Taiwan's unmanned vehicle industry,
including plans for testing sites and requirements for domestic production
and cybersecurity standards.

The government says the measures are intended to strengthen defense autonomy
while developing Taiwan's drone industry.
