Nvidia earnings lift Tai-Ex past 46,000

The Tai-Ex surged past the 46,000-point mark in early trading after Nvidia
reported stronger-than-expected earnings and an upbeat outlook.

Taiwan's benchmark index opened more than 550 points higher and climbed as
high as 46-thousand-390.

Heavyweight TSMC rose nearly 1 percent to 2-thousand-435 NT, while Hon Hai
gained more than 2 percent.

MediaTek briefly topped 4-thousand NT before giving up its gains and trading
near the previous close.

Memory-chip stocks also rallied, with Nanya Technology rising more than 4
percent and Winbond Electronics gaining over 3 percent.

High-priced chip designer Global Unichip hit the daily limit at
2-thousand-650 NT.
