The Kinmen County Government has suspended shipments of pork and processed
pork products to Taiwan proper and other outlying islands after a African
swine fever was detected in the carcass of a pig that had washed ashore.

The suspension of shipments of processed pork products runs until next
Monday.

Live pigs from Kinmen are already banned from being shipped to Taiwan proper
and other outlying islands under existing regulations.

According to Kinmen County Department of Economic Development, the pig
carcass was found on the shoreline at Wu-sha-jiao in Jin-ning Township on
Saturday by Coast Guard personnel.

County animal health officials collected tissue samples, disinfected the
site, and incinerated and buried the carcass.

The surrounding area was also isinfected.

Authorities in Kinmen has since inspected 22 pig farms within a 10-kilometer
radius of the site and officials say no traces of the African swine fever
were found at any of the farms.
