Kurdish-Led Syria Force Dissolves and Merges with Syrian Army

In Syria, the commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces has
announced the group's official dissolution.

Speaking Tuesday at the presidential palace in Damascus, the commander said
the SDF has completed a merger with the Syrian army and will no longer
operate independently.

The Kurdish-led force once controlled a de facto autonomous zone in Syria's
northeast, but lost it to a government offensive in January.

The SDF was once the main U.S. partner in Syria against the Islamic State
group.

However, after the ouster of former Syrian President Bashar Assad in December
2024, Washington formed close ties with the new government in Damascus.
