Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an says his administration will fully support the
rebuilding of the Chih-Nan Temple's Lingxiao Chapel after it suffered
extensive damage in a fire Monday night.

Speaking during an inspection of the site with temple officials, Chiang said
the city will establish a cross-agency task force to coordinate restoration
efforts and provide administrative assistance to help the temple rebuild the
chapel as soon as possible.

According to Chiang, experts will determine which parts of the damaged hall
should be preserved and which can be removed.

The fire broke out at about 8:50 Monday evening and the 60-year-old Taoist
structure burned for more than three hours.

The blaze destroyed the first floor and damaging about one-third of the
second floor and fire officials say the hall's wooden structure and
combustible materials contributed to the rapid spread of flames.

The temple's mountainous location, narrow roads and limited water supply also
hampered efforts to get fire teams to the site.

No one was injured in the fire and the cause of the blaze remains under
investigation.
