Indonesian migrant fishers have launched the Freedom for Fishers Campaign.
The Freedom for Fishers Campaign was initiated by the Pingtung County Migrant Fishers Union.
The campaign was announced at the Donggang Fishing Harbor in Pingtung County and demands that Indonesian migrant fishers recieve fair wages and employment contracts and have guaranteed access to Wi-Fi on all vessels.
The union is also calling for the right to organize and join a union free from intimidation and retaliation, a transparent and fair grievance mechanism, and healthy and safe working conditions.
The group says although the government has repeatedly insisted that many of the issues have been addressed and improved, abuses continue and it still get reports of incidents on Taiwan's distant-water fishing vessels.
The union says it hopes the campaign will help it to reach a binding and implementable agreement with companies in the international seafood supply chain to better protect the rights of migrant fishers.
