K-M-T Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun used her speech marking the anniversary of the Chinese artillery bombardment of Kinmen in August of 1958 by calling in the government to recognize the 1992 consensus in order to ease cross-strait tensions.
Cheng paid a visit to the 823 Artillery Bombardment Museum, where she said the soldiers killed during the battle defended the Republic of China, its Constitution, democracy and freedom.
Cheng claims the K-M-T is seeking to transform Kinmen from a military stronghold into a hub for peace - and believes if the government recognize the 1992 consensus, then cross-strait dialogue and exchanges could resume.
