Tesla, other Chinese carmakers recall more than 4m vehicles

Tesla and other carmakers in China are recalling more than 4 million vehicles
over safety concerns.

Tesla's recall is the biggest of all carmakers involved.

It is recalling nearly 3 million vehicles, including Models 3, Y, X and S,
over door handle safety risks.

This follows China's announcement in February that it will ban hidden door
handles seen commonly on Tesla and other Chinese electric vehicles.

The ban starts next year.

China has stepped up scrutiny on door handles of EVs following accidents in
which hidden electronic door handles failed to open and trapped passengers.

Other Chinese carmakers involved in the recall include Xiaomi, Geely,
Leapmotor and XPENG.
