US chief justice allows White House ballroom construction to continue

US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has signed a temporary order to allow work on the White House ballroom to continue as the court considers an emergency appeal from the administration.
The temporary order came hours before lower-court rulings would have forced a halt to aboveground construction of the project because Trump didn't obtain congressional approval.
The Trump administration says 65% of the work on the ballroom has already been completed ... and the work is on course to come in ahead of schedule and under budget.
Roberts' order will remain in place until the Supreme Court issues a more durable decision. The one-page document doesn't detail Roberts' reasoning or indicate when another ruling will be handed down.
Trump thanked the court and Roberts and called the court's action a "good thing."
