Taipei City employee indicted for embezzling 310k

Taipei prosecutors have indicted a city employee on charges that he embezzled
310,000 NT in city funds.

The employee, surnamed Pan, was responsible for paying bills on behalf of the
city for water and electricity expenses...

when he was actually allegedly using it to buy gifts for his girlfriend or
for his own personal expenses.

Prosecutors say that the city had a safe in which to keep the cash that Pan
would need for paying those bills, which Pan opened thrice in June of last
year, embezzling a total of 150,000 NT.

After his superior discovered this, Pan repaid the money and the key to the
safe was given to an employee surnamed Yu...

but the superior failed to report the incident.

The following month, Pan allegedly approached Yu to get the key, again taking
162,000 NT in funds.

He ultimately turned himself in last year.
