Taitung councilor raises concerns over adding deputy magistrate position

A Taitung county councilor is raising concerns over a local government plan
to add another deputy magistrate position.

DPP Councilor Jian Wei Guo questioned the need to add a second deputy
magistrate and a deputy secretary-general, given that Taitung's population is
only 210000 people.

He called on the county government to carefully evaluate if the cost of
adding two high level positions was worth it to the Taitung taxpayer...

asking if the positions were truly necessary.

In particular, Jian called into question if the deputy secretary-general post
would actually decrease the efficiency of the county government, making it
more bureaucratic.

But county officials say, the additions are necessary, as Taitung county is
quite diverse, both geographically and in terms of population.

However, they noted that the exact division of labor has yet to be hammered
out
