Taiwan condemns Malaysian prime minister's Taiwan remarks
Posted on 2026-08-18 16:23:13
Taiwan's government has strongly condemned Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar
Ibrahim over comments it says undermine Taiwan's sovereignty.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Anwar portrayed Taiwan as a separatist
province of China and justified Beijing's possible use of force against the
island during a recent media interview.

MOFA says such remarks threaten regional peace and could seriously damage
political trust between Taiwan and Malaysia.

It reiterated that Taiwan and China are not subordinate to each other.

The ministry also warned Anwar's comments could affect Taiwanese businesses'
confidence in investing in Malaysia, despite close economic and trade ties
between the two sides.
