Immigration officers at Taoyuan International Airport have stopped a Sri Lankan man from traveling to Canada using a forged Canadian passport.
The National Immigration Agency says E-V-A Air ground staff noticed problems with the man's documents and travel itinerary while he was transferring at the airport last Thursday.
The man was also unable to answer basic questions about Canada and later admitted he was Sri Lankan, producing his genuine passport from his luggage.
He told authorities he had paid a human smuggling group 10-thousand U.S. dollars for the fake passport, travel route and airline tickets.
Officials say he had hoped to reach Canada for work.
He was returned to Singapore, his previous point of departure.
