NDC to review Longtan Science Park expansion
Posted on 2026-08-10 07:01:15
The National Development Council is slated to review a revived plan to expand
the Longtan Science Park in Taoyuan.

The move is meant to pave the way for the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing
to build five new fabs at the science park, where it will produce advanced
chips.

The project cleared Science Park Council review in May before being sent to
the Cabinet in June.

The Cabinet has since passed it on to the National Development Council for
further review.

The government has said the expansion project could produce 310-billion N-T
in annual economic output and create over 6,000 jobs.

It's hoped that construction of the science park expansion project can begin
in 2030.

T-S-M-C originally dropped plans to invest in the expansion project in 2023
and open fabs in Kaohsiung instead due to land acquisition issues in the
Longtan area.

However, the chipmaker is now eyeing the site as a major part of its
expansion plans.
