Typhoon Dolphin weakens, to be closest to Taiwan tonight and tomorrow
Posted on 2026-08-08 11:07:13
The Central Weather Administration says Typhoon Dolphin is around 500
kilometers northeast of Taiwan and weakening.

The typhoon is expected to be closest to Taiwan between tonight and tomorrow.

It's traveling roughly westward at between 10 and 14 km/h, with a radius of
280 km ... and it's expected to veer northwest tomorrow ... toward Zhejiang
province in China.

The CWA has issued a giant wave warning and is expecting significant waves
from Matsu on down to the Hengchun peninsula.

Forecasters say rainfall will intensify from tonight, expanding towards the
plains of central and southern Taiwan. Rainfall will also accumulate rapidly
in the mountainous areas north of central Taiwan.

It will gradually subside from tomorrow night.

The system is bringing cooler temperatures to northern Taiwan, but the east
coast will see foehn winds, which heat up the leeward side of the mountains.

The highs today will be 31-34 degrees in the north, 33-35 in the south and up
to 38 degrees along the east coast.
