Flavio Bolsonaro names Alfredo Gaspar as running mate

Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro has named conservative
lawmaker Alfredo Gaspar as his running mate in October's election.

The choice surprised observers after Bolsonaro had considered selecting a
woman to broaden his support.

Gaspar represents the northeastern state of Alagoas and previously served as
its public security secretary.

He also led a congressional investigation into Brazil's social security
agency, which has drawn scrutiny involving one of President Luiz Inacio Lula
da Silva's sons.

Lula's son denies wrongdoing.
